About This Activity

Combine two of Japan's finest castles in a single day by shinkansen from Kyoto. Okayama's striking black Crow Castle (Ujo) overlooks Korakuen, one of Japan's three great classical gardens. A 30-minute train hop reaches Himeji, where the White Heron Castle (UNESCO) rises six stories above the city in immaculate white lacquered beauty — widely considered Japan's finest surviving feudal castle. Koko-en garden adjacent to the castle is free with castle admission. Factor 30 minutes travel time between cities.

Seasonal note: Cherry blossoms at Himeji in late March
