Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka are Kyoto's most atmospheric preserved pedestrian streets, flanking Kiyomizu-dera Temple on the Higashiyama hillside. Browse handmade ceramics, matcha confections, and silk goods in traditional machiya shops, then pause at a bamboo-fenced teahouse for cold amazake. The streets are gaslit at dusk and photogenic in any season, particularly during cherry blossom season and autumn foliage.
