About This Activity

Uji has cultivated premium matcha for over 800 years, fed by underground spring water that produces Japan's finest shaded tencha leaves. This guided tour visits a working tea farm to see leaf shading and hand-picking techniques, then conducts a full tasting of different grade matcha at a traditional tea house. It also covers the UNESCO World Heritage Byodoin Temple (depicted on the ¥10 coin). Train from Kyoto Station takes 30 min; tour price of ¥20,000 includes transport and tastings.

Seasonal note: First harvest (ichibancha) May; autumn harvest Oct — best in these seasons
